IAPH 2024 sustainability awards are out

The International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) recently announced the winners of the IAPH 2023 Sustainability Awards during the gala dinner of the IAPH World Ports Conference in Hamburg: American, European & Asian ports are all among the winners, with Ulsan Port picking up two prizes - the ‘Climate and Energy’ award, as well as the ‘Health Safety and Security’ award.

‘Community Building’ winner is Chennai Port, whereas Freeport of Riga gained the ‘Digitalisation’ award with its “Seamless 5G Connectivity in the Baltic Sea” project. The port of Antwerp-Bruges, home to 90 protected species, came first in the ‘Environmental Care’ category.

Porto do Açu leads Brazil's low-carbon development by integrating climate strategies into its port masterplan, focusing on low-carbon hydrogen and industrial symbiosis. It won this year’s ‘Infrastructure’ award. Last but not least, the ‘Akiyama Award’ went to the Autonomous Port of Cotonou. (cj)
