Hydrogen-powered ro-ro tractors to roll by 2023
Volvo Penta, CMB.TECH and Ports of Stockholm have entered into a collaborative relationship as part of an important hydrogen investment in Stockholm Norvik Port, Sweden, with the first pilot ro-ro tractor due to be delivered in 2023.
In the collaborative pilot, CMB.Tech will modify the newly built ro-ro unit, powered by Volvo Penta’s D8 engines, with a hydrogen system before the machine is delivered to Ports of Stockholm. The hydrogen-diesel dual fuel technology can be simply and quickly installed in a whole range of applications.
The hydrogen investment is to help Ports of Stockholm achieve its environmental goal of guaranteeing entirely fossil fuel-free operations by 2030. (ben)
