Hupac to provide alternative offer via France

The Swiss CT operator is calling for the expansion of the railway lines on the left bank of the Rhine in France to ensure the stability and reliability of CT services on the north-south axis.

The reason for this demand is the recent experience with the three-week full closure of the Rhine Valley railway during construction work in August. During this time, a diesel shuttle specially deployed by SBB Cargo International maintained railfreight traffic on the route on the left bank of the Rhine through Alsace.

Hupac is planning to operate container transit trains via France from 2025, to provide an alternative route to the Rhine Valley railway, if required. In Germany, further corridor renovations scheduled for the near future will restrict traffic for months. (ben)
