Holiday season ends, air cargo rebounds

World ACD’s data reveal that global tonnages increased in the third full week of August (21 to 27 August), following a similar pattern as one year ago, mainly driven by Europe rebounding from the holiday season, while rates remained stable.

Comparing weeks 33 and 34 (14 to 27 August) with the preceding two weeks (31 July to 13 August), overall tonnages dropped by -4% versus their combined total in weeks 31 and 32.

On the pricing side, average global rates remained flat, along with prices from the main origin regions, except for Africa – which showed an increase of +3%.

Worldwide average rates are currently -36% below their levels this time last year, at an average of USD 2.27 per kg in week 34, although they remain significantly above pre-Covid levels (+33% compared to August 2019). (ah)
