Historic call at Khalifa Port

The 'CMA CGM Iron' made history on Friday, 14 March, when it became the first dual-fuel methanol containership to call at CMA Terminals Khalifa Port, a joint venture between the CMA CGM unit CMA Terminals (70%) and the AD Ports Group (30%), strengthening the partnership between the CMA CGM Group and the AD Ports Group in maritime decarbonisation.

The 13,000 teu vessel, built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, is part of CMA CGM’s plan to deploy twelve dual-fuel methanol vessels by 2026.

“This milestone marks our journey towards net-zero carbon emissions by 2050,” said Christine Cabau Woehrel, the executive vice-president for assets and operations at the CMA CGM Group.

Aside from CMA Terminals Khalifa Port, which was inaugurated in December 2024, CMA CGM and AD Ports Group are also developing a multipurpose terminal in Pointe Noire (Republic of Congo), expanding their global footprint in port management. (ah)
