HHLA: a mixed bag in Q1/2021

Q1/2021 had its ups and downs for Hamburger Hafen und Logistik (HHLA). The group's ebit rose by 26.4 % to EUR 46.3 million mostly due to high storage fees caused by continued shipping delays in Hamburg as well as rising container transport volumes.

Container throughput fell significantly by 6.6 %, whereas container transport in total surged by 10.7 % in Q1/2021 compared to Q1/2020. The decrease is due to the loss of a Far East service at Container Terminal Burchardkai in May 2020.

The real estate division suffered losses, both in revenues and earnings. In total, group revenue increased by 3.9 % to EUR 348.7 million. The intermodal segment saw its total transport volumes grow by 10.7 % to 418,000 teu.

Compared with the previous year, railfreight improved by 12.1 % to 336,000 teu (previous year: 300,000 teu). There was also an increase in traffic from both the North German and Adriatic seaports. (cd)
