Heavier locos for Swiss railfreight operator
BLS Cargo is procuring ten new multi-system freight locomotives from Siemens Mobility to be used on the North-South corridor from Belgium/Netherlands to Italy.
The locomotives are furnished with the newly developed XLoad equipment package, a combination of features that improve the traction capability and efficiency of the locomotives. This allows heavier trains to be run in single traction, eliminating the need for additional booster or push locomotives.
The new locomotives will be delivered in 2026, thus increasing BLS Cargo’s Vectron fleet to 50 vehicles. The company ordered a total of 40 locomotives from Siemens Mobility already back in 2015 and 2020. (ben)
