Hamburg's smart trucks to blaze the trail

This is the first time a smart truck is to be deployed in an urban environment. The trial will be conducted in Hamburg, Germany, and is scheduled to last four years.

The aim of the Modi project is to test solutions and potentials of the highest level of automation without a driver being in the vehicle while driving.

The project, which is 80% funded by the EU with EUR 34 million, is backed by a consortium of 29 partners. These include research institutes and universities, truck manufacturers Volvo, Einride, DAF, the shipping companies DFDS and Maersk, and the logistics company Gruber from South Korea, which recently took over the German heavy goods logistics company Universal Transport.
