Hamburg's electric move

The Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) operated by Hamburger Hafen und Logistik (HHLA) in Hamburg has transitioned to a fully battery-electric automated guided vehicle (AGV) fleet.

This switch eliminates the need for fossil fuels in on-site container transport, with 95 new electric AGVs powered by green electricity. It is estimated to save about 3 million litres of diesel annually, cutting roughly 8,000 t of CO2 emissions.

HHLA aims to achieve climate-neutral production throughout the company by 2040 and is continuing its ongoing investments in electric technology and support for certified climate protection projects to offset remaining CO2 emissions. (pb)
