Growing demand for freight services in Europe
Timocom’s transport barometer is now showing the first indications of a slight trend reversal. After significantly fewer freight offers were posted in the first two months of this year than in the previous quarter, the number rose again significantly in March with an increase of 42% across Europe. A trend reversal in the decline in demand for cargo space has also been evident since autumn 2022.
Q1/2023 however remains 25% below the previous quarter. There has been a significant increase in the number of entries for free hold space, up 16% on the same quarter last year and up 24% on Q4/2022. Timocom attributes this uptick primarily to a lower availability of freight offers rather than to additional capacity in the market. (ben)
