Ground broken in Villmergen

Swiss Post has responded to growing online trade by investing around CHF 137 million in expanding its existing Villmergen site into its largest warehouse logistics centre. The project contains four extensions. Among other things, Swiss Post is setting up an automatic high-bay warehouse with space for 23,000 pallets and 125,000 automated containers for small goods.

The storage area in Villmergen will therefore increase to 57,000 sqm on five floors, taking some pressure off logistics centres in Dintikon, Mägenwil and Oftringen, which are reaching their limits.

The group is also installing a system on the roof of the new Villmergen warehousing centre that will supply more than 1,200 MWh of solar power per year. The new building will be operational from the beginning of 2025. (sh)
