Green light for trains to haul heavy duty loads in Italy
Rail Cargo Carrier – Italy has successfully completed the journey of the heaviest freight train in its history, travelling from Travisio to Udine. 24 fully loaded tank cars with a total weight of 2,200 t started at the large marshalling yard Villach Süd in Austria and arrived at Trento Roncafort in Italy.
Braking tests were performed on the Ugovizza–Carnia section and starting tests on stretches with gradients of over 7‰. Both limits were exceeded by several 100 t.
As the first trial run was perfect, the carrier can go full speed ahead and launch more heavy load transports in Italy as from 1 March 2020.
