Good start of the year for Dunkirk

With a monthly throughput of more than 5 million t of goods handled in March, the French port of Dunkirk is approaching the monthly record mark established before the global economic crisis in April 2008 (5.29 million t). The volumes recorded at the LNG terminal contribute to this good trend.

By the end of March, LNG traffic already stood at 1.25 million t, equivalent to the tonnage generated throughout 2018. Over the last three months, the terminal handled 18 LNG tanker calls. As regards solid bulk, cereal trade is showing signs of recovery with cumulated traffic of 0.5 million t, up 45% over the previous year.

General merchandise was driven by container throughput, up 17% in the Q1/2019. In early March, the Terminal des Flandres in Dunkirk hosted a record stopover of the “MV CMA CGM Bleriot” with 5,700 teu handled. (kd)
