Getting ready for mega vessels

Marport, Istanbul's largest port, has invested USD 200 million to increase its capacity for handling two mega vessels simultaneously and improve operational efficiency with advanced equipment.

Established in 2001 as a joint venture between Arkas Holding and Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), Marport has added four new ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, increasing the total to 14. The expansion is part of the port's modernisation project, aiming to boost its speed and efficiency to support Turkey’s role in international markets.

The port has extended its berth length to 480 m, enabling it to accommodate some of the world's largest container vessels. By 2024, Marport will be able to serve multiple mega vessels at the same time. The upgrade is expected to benefit foreign trade stakeholders and the Turkish economy enabling them to improve business strategies and cost management. (pb)
