Germany’s green grid strengthened by LHG operation
Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft (LHG), the operator of the German port of Lübeck, recently completed a record-breaking project cargo operation when it handled two transformers at its Nordlandkai terminal that were transported to Stockelsdorf, in the German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein.
The transformers arrived from Rotterdam on the coastal vessel ‘River Trader’. Each unit, manufactured by Hitachi Energy in Bad Honnef (Germany), weighed 286 t and was around 12 m long. A Liebherr LG 1750 crane was employed for the challenging loading task, requiring extensive setup and 26 trucks to deliver the counterweights and other components.
The equipment will support the east coast conduit, a key project in Germany’s energy transition that will transport green energy to southern Germany. (pb)
