Germany gets centre for self-driving trucks

Torc Robotics, a specialist for SAE level 4 self-driving vehicle software for heavy-duty vehicles and a subsidiary of Daimler Truck in North America, is opening a technology and software development centre in Stuttgart. Here, the company will support the ongoing development of the level 4 autonomous virtual driver to be deployed in autonomous trucks in USA.

Torc and Daimler Truck are collaboratively pursuing a common goal to build and bring autonomous trucks for long-haul transports to the roads within the decade.

The two companies are currently ramping up development and testing in USA. Torc is already running autonomous test trucks on highways in New Mexico and Texas. (ben)
