Gebrüder Weiss enhances Bulgarian position

Rhenus has decided to quit the road haulage business in Bulgaria and hand its activities over to the Gebrüder Weiss logistics group (GW), which has been active in Bulgaria since 1993. The acquisition includes facilities in Sofia, Burgas, Svilengrad, Varna and Plovdiv. The agreement was recently inked in Sofia, while regulatory approval from antitrust authorities is still pending.

Gebrüder Weiss CEO Wolfram Senger-Weiss said that “acquiring Rhenus Bulgaria’s customers and employees doubles the size of our long-standing national unit there.” Rhenus operated in Bulgaria for many years with centres in the capital Sofia. It also had a distribution network, with branches in Plovdiv on the Thracian plain and in the port of Varna on the Black Sea. Rhenus Bulgaria’s management team will aid the process of transferring the business. (sh)
