GBRF buys box wagons to transport bulk

The leasing company Porterbrook and GB Railfreight have signed an agreement for the production and purchase of 50 new JNA-X box wagons.

The wagons will be manufactured by Greenbrier in the USA and will arrive in the UK in Q3/2024. They will replace aging assets and increase railfreight capacity as they join the existing 100 intermodal twin wagons and 50 box wagons that have been delivered to the UK rail network since 2022. GB Railfreight will deploy the new units to transport bulk construction materials such as ballast and stone.

With 1.44 billion tkm from 1 July to 30 September 2023, freight volumes in construction reached the highest value since April 1998, the British office of road and rail reported. (ben)
