Gas specialist powers Purus’ new fleet

The Wärtsilä Corporation has secured a contract to provide Cargo Handling Systems (CHS) with four new medium gas carrier vessels, with a 45,000 cbm capacity each, being built for UK and Singapore-based Purus.

These ships, under construction at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) in Korea, are primarily intended to transport ammonia. The order, placed by HMD and booked in Q4/2023, reinforces the ongoing collaboration between Wärtsilä, a specialist in gas carrier cargo handling solutions, and HMD in the region's medium gas carrier market.

Delivery of the Wärtsilä equipment to the yard is scheduled for Q3/2024, with the first ship expected to start commercial operations in the latter half of 2025. (pb)
