Funding for last and middle drone mile project
In collaboration with its hometown Bruchsal, SEW Eurodrive, DB Schenker and the action group Karlsruhe Technology Region, which is committed to strengthening and promoting the southwest German region as a hub for business, science and innovation, with a special focus on mobility, Volocopter will be testing its urban logistics processes for the last and middle miles as part of the "Last Mile City Lab" lighthouse project.
An autonomous "Volodrone" (200 kg/40 km) will deliver containers of packages to a distribution centre, where they will be dropped on electric cargo bikes or last mile robots for final delivery to end-customers.
The project is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund with EUR 19 million and is thus contributing to Karlsruhe's regional strategy for technological development. (ah)
