Fully electric trucking in Germany

WP Holding has introduced a fully electric truck with a range of 400 km, which is initially to be used for local distribution.

The WP Holding, a logistics provider based in Zwickau (Germany), has added its first battery-powered fully electric truck, built by Daimler Benz, to its fleet. The truck, an 'eActros 400', received EUR 248,000 in funding from the German ministry of digitisation and transport, to be invested in charging infrastructure. Such subsidies are given to commercial vehicles designed for eco-friendly fuel.

The eActros 400’s four batteries charge with 160 kW; a full recharging takes a little over two hours, making it practical for overnight stops or intermediary charging during the loading/unloading of goods.

Doreen Paesold-Runge, managing director of WP Holding: "We see our first e-truck as a strong sign that, as a service provider, we're working with our customers to reduce their carbon footprint." (mk)
