From New York to Washington

Polly Trottenberg was sworn in as the deputy secretary of transportation by Pete Buttigieg, secretary of the department of transportation (DoT) on 14 April 2021.

Trottenberg, who had previously been confirmed by the Senate, has 25 years of government service, most recently as transportation commissioner and head of New York City’s department of transportation, an agency with 6,000 employees.

She was already assistant secretary and under-secretary for policy at the DoT in the Obama administration and developed transport policies for state and local transport agencies on every type of project (roads, bridges, transit, rail, airports, ports and pipelines).

Trottenberg graduated from Barnard College and received her master's degree in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. (amh)
