For Ikea in Bergkamen
DHL Supply Chain, an affiliate of DHL Group for contract logistics, has opened an automated fulfilment centre in Bergkamen, Germany, for its customer, home furnishings group Ikea. The facility is intended to store and distribute goods for Ikea’s fast-growing B2C online business in Germany.
The multi-customer site has a surface of 40,000 sqm of warehouse space, half of which will be available for Ikea alone. 350 employees will be working for the customer on-site in three shifts, six days a week.
The facility will be fully operational by the end of June. It will use complex conveyor automation in conjunction with Locus robots and Packsize machines for picking products. (sh)
