Flying aftercoolers to an oil platform

London-headquartered aircraft charter specialist Air Charter Service recently arranged the delivery of two aftercoolers, weighing 48 t each, from Milan (Italy) to an offshore oil platform that was being constructed in Batam, an Indonesian Island, just off the coast of Singapore.

Jason Bird, cargo director of ACS Singapore: "The extreme weight of the cargo led us to recommend using an AN-124 and flying directly into Singapore, due to the superior cargo handling facilities and the need for external cranes to offload the cargo."

ACS worked closely with an engineering company and Antonov Airlines in the creation of a cradle capable of supporting the units during the loading process. Road permits in Europe and Asia were also secured. Group cargo director Dan Morgan-Evans: "This charter is a great example of how important our global network of offices is."
