Flowers and SAF to fuel Mother's Day's shipments
Latam Group, Kuehne + Nagel and Elite Group, a major player in floral industry, have reached a new joint agreement to reduce emissions from the transport of flowers for Mother's Day, which was celebrated in most parts of the world yesterday, 12 May 2024.
There were 34,615 l of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) purchased together, equivalent to the CO2 reduction of 70 t of flowers moved in peak seasons from Bogotá to Miami. This translates into the shipment of more than 1.6 million flower stems.
Latam Group's cargo subsidiaries concluded a historic season for Mother's Day by leading the transport of flowers from South America to the world. Over a period of 21 days, over 24,000 t of flowers were mobilised from Colombia and Ecuador, 20% more than in the same period last year. (ah)
