Five US carriers for Rail Pulse
Norfolk Southern, GATX, Genesee & Wyoming, Trinity Rail and Watco have joined forces to develop Rail Plus, a new technology platform which will help transform rail shipping in the 21st century, the five US transport companies said.
The new venture will facilitate and accelerate the adoption of GPS and other telematics technology across North America’s railcar fleet.
The Rail Pulse partners own collectively nearly 20% of the continent’s railcar fleet and are seeking to accelerate the adoption of telematics to meet two specific objectives: to increase safety and to improve rail's competitive position relative to other modes. The full-service platform is targeted to be available by the end of 2022. (ben)
