Fit for European cross-border traffic

French manufacturer Alstom is equipping DB Cargo freight locomotives with modern ETCS signalling technology. This will enable them to continue operating in Belgium and the Netherlands when the lines are upgraded to ETCS for the time table changes in 2024/25 (Belgium) and 2025/26 (the Netherlands).

The upgrade will improve freight safety, increase punctuality and reduce maintenance costs, Alstom said. The first prototype is being retrofitted by maintenance expert Shunter.

Alstom and DB Cargo announced plans to refurbish 13 EG3100 freight locomotives with ETCS for freight services between Germany, Denmark and Sweden last year. (ben)
