First new locomotive runs along Baku-Tbilisi-Kars line
Alstom has delivered the first of the 40 Prima T8 AZ8A freight locomotives to Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), which will operate the units on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars regional line.
The locomotive, produced at EKZ, a joint venture between Alstom and Transmashholding in Kazakhstan, recently arrived in Bilajary (Azerbaijan), after being shipped from Astana.
Alstom will now conduct validation tests on the Azerbaijani railway's infrastructure over the next few months. The AZ8A is a Prima T8 heavy freight locomotive developed for Azerbaijan. It is based on the KZ8A locomotives currently in service in Kazakhstan, and ADY’s specific technical requirements. (ben)
