First Gemini vessel at London Gateway
DP World London Gateway has welcomed the first vessel from the Gemini Cooperation, an alliance between the shipping lines Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd.
The ‘Maersk Stadelhorn’ arrived on a call in its ME2/IEX India–Europe service, linking the UK with ports in the rest of Europe, the Middle East and South Asia. This follows DP World Southampton’s first Gemini vessel call in February, which further expanded DP World’s global network.
The Gemini Cooperation, formed to optimise east–west shipping routes, has achieved 90% service reliability in its first month. Once fully operational it will run 57 services with a capacity to carry 3.7 million teu, covering 12% of the global container trade.
DP World’s Ernst Schulze said that the new service strengthens London Gateway’s trade role. It plans to become the UK’s largest container port in five years. (ah)
