First autonomous truck soon to operate in Ulm

Car manufacturer Man, Deutsche Bahn, the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences and Götting, a producer of equipment and systems for automation, have drawn a positive mid-term balance for their joint Anita project (autonomous innovation in terminal operations).

From September, or at the latest from 2023, the first autonomously driving semi-trailer trucks are to be tested in container handling in Ulm, Germany. Until then, however, the trucks have still to carry out intensive practical and development drives in Ulm Dornstadt.

The Anita project aims to develop fully automated HGVs that will carry freight between the DB Intermodal Services container depot and the Duss terminal in Ulm to shift containers from road to rail. The goal is to improve the efficiency and flexibility of combined transport. (ben)
