"Finneco I" launched

The hybrid ro-ro vessel “Finneco I” has just been launched at the Nanjing Jinling Shipyard. The first new Finnlines’ unit of this generation, which have 38% more cargo capacity than their predecessors, will start sailing under the Finnish flag by the end of this year. This is a milestone in Finnlines’ EUR 500 million green newbuilding programme.

All in all, the shipping company has ordered three hybrid ro-ro vessels of this newest generation. In total, 20 Finnlines’ vessels will sail under the Finnish flag when the new ships are all in service, providing regular sea connections from Finland to Sweden and Finland to continental Europe and Great Britain.

“Finneco I” will set sail on on its first Finnlines’ Biscay–North Sea–Baltic Sea service at the turn of the year. The second and third vessels in the series, “Finneco II” and “Finneco III2, will be delivered in 2022.

The new vessels will be 238 m long with a cargo capacity of 5,800 lane metres. Additionally, car decks have a capacity of 5,800 sqm and about 520 teu on the weather deck. Each of the new vessels can therefore carry about 300 trailers, 150 cars and 500 sea containers per sailing. (cd)
