Faster trade links for Iraq

Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT), a multi-purpose cargo facility at the Port of Umm Qasr in Iraq, welcomed the maiden call of the RCL West India-Gulf (RWG) service in October 2024.

Operated by Regional Container Line (RCL) and Bengal Tiger Line (BTL), this service enhances trade connectivity between Iraq, India, and the Middle East with a 21-day rotation through Mundra, Nhava Sheva, Jebel Ali, and Umm Qasr.

The arrival of the Thai-flagged “MV Vira Bhum” marks the first RCL vessel and Thai-flagged ship to reach Iraq. With its modern infrastructure and proximity to regional markets, BGT is a major gateway for Iraq’s growing economy.

A team of three vessels, which include the “Vira Bhum” and “Intersea Traveler”, will ensure the reliability of the service and further strengthen Iraq’s trade network. (pb)
