Expansion of the Phyrn line ready to move ahead

The ÖBB railway group is preparing the expansion of the north-south connection in Austria and has included EUR 148 million in the 2022 - 2027 framework plan for this purpose. The necessary funds are therefore now available to push ahead with the upgrade of the line between Linz and Selzthal - known as the Phyrn line - to two tracks.

Of the total line length of about 104 km, only 20 km allow for double-track traffic. According to ÖBB, the upgrade to two tracks will shorten journey times, increase capacities and strengthen international railfreight traffic.

The Phyrn line connects important industrial regions in Upper Austria and Styria and is part of the Trans-European transport network (TEN-T). (ben)
