Expanded hinterland rail service
Metrans is strengthening its connections between German ports and Berlin and Gernsheim. The HHLA intermodal affiliate is also linking its network with a service provided by GUT (Gernsheimer Umschlags- und Terminalbetriebsgesellschaft) between Gernsheim and Rotterdam / Antwerp (the Netherlands/Belgium).
Metrans and GUT despatched the first groups of wagons running between Hamburg and Gernsheim a few months ago. Now, the service schedule is operating four trains per week.
Besides the terminal services (full and empty depot, MRI services, reefer plug-ins), GUT provide a twice weekly service from Gernsheim to Rotterdam and Antwerp by barge. (ben)
