European ports push for consistent OPS tax policy

The European Sea Ports Organisation (Espo) and the Federation of European Private Port Companies and Terminals (Freport) are advocating for an EU-wide mandatory tax exemption for onshore power supply (OPS) in the revised energy taxation directive (ETD).

They argue that such an exemption is crucial for promoting the use of OPS, which is a key priority under the alternative fuels infrastructure regulation (Afir). This policy would support the decarbonisation of the maritime sector and ensure a level playing field in EU member states. (pb)
