EU funds for Spain's railfreight sector
Spain is investing EUR 17.3 million in modern rolling stock. The funds will be given to Ermewa Iberica to produce 150 Shimmns wagons for coil transport and 50 new-generation pocket wagons, Spain’s ministry of transport said. Delivery is planned for 2024.
The 50 pocket wagons for transporting semi-trailers will be built in Spain by Talleres Alegria, while the 150 Shimmns wagons will be manufactured in France by Inveho at its Orval site.
The funds are part of the EU-wide EUR 800 billion "Next Generation EU Programme" which is intended to help repair the immediate damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic and drive ecological change. (ben)
