Ethiopian Cargo launches Macao–Madrid route

Ethiopian Airlines is continuing to expand its cargo network; it has now launched a new Macao–Madrid route.

According to the Xinhua news agency a Boeing B777F departed from Macao airport on 3 April, marking the start of twice-weekly flights offering capacities of 400 t per week. Macao has thus become the latest addition to Ethiopian’s growing footprint in the Greater Bay area, following in the footsteps of services established to and from Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

The new route is expected to move over 20,000 t of e-commerce cargo annually, including toys, electronics, furniture, apparel and cosmetics.

Aman Wole Gurmu, Ethiopian Airlines’ country director for China, said the new service will strengthen collaboration with e-commerce supply chains in Asia. Macao airport officials also expect the route to enhance trade flows between the Greater Bay Area, Europe and South America. (ah)
