Equipping 1,000+ rail cars for coal transports

DB Cargo is transporting coal by goods train to the power plant operator Steag in the German federal state of Saarland. The Bexbach power plant near Neunkirchen is thus one of the first large power plants to benefit from the recently created "priority corridors" for supply-relevant goods trains.

On these routes, goods trains that are central to securing Germany’s energy supply are given priority in the rail network.

For the Bexbach site, a new supply chain was also created for ammonia, which is needed for flue gas cleaning in coal-fired power plants. Furthermore, DB Cargo is currently modernising more than 1,000 coal wagons, which will also be deployed for coal transports in the near future. (ben)
