Entry barriers discourage hauliers

According to the first systematic survey to be conducted with 200 German transport companies, entry barriers continue to prevent many forwarders from shifting truck transports to rail.

Many participants cited the efforts required for planning and a lack of expertise as obstacles to switching from truck to rail. Road hauliers often do not carry the kind of loading units that can be lifted by a crane and loaded onto a train.

Finally, many companies are simply not aware of the services and prices offered by CT operators or do not have access to suitable CT train connections near their locations.

The companies that participated in the survey also mentioned punctuality and reliability of railfreight services as a key issue. (ben)
