E-trucks emit 63% less GHG than diesel

According to a study published by the International Council on Clean Transportation, battery electric trucks (BEV) produced in Europe today can deliver the largest greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions over their lifetime.

A 40-t BEV that was put into service in 2021 produces at least 63% less emissions over its lifetime compared to a diesel vehicle and 84% less when it uses only renewable electricity.

Fuel cell electric trucks powered by hydrogen produced from fossil fuels emit 15% less GHG emissions. Powered by hydrogen produced with only renewable electricity, they save 85% GHG emissions compared to their diesel counterparts.

Furthermore, trucks have the greatest impact on the climate  when they are in use on the roads or consume fuel, and not during the extraction of raw materials, construction, or maintenance. (ben)
