Duties on Chinese BEVs

The European Commission is set to impose countervailing duties on battery electric vehicles (BEVs) from China. This draft decision is based on comments received on a previous proposal published in July. As of now, the definitive findings disclose an adjustment of the proposed duty rates.

Regarding the main exporters of BEVs, the rates are set to be as follows: 17% for BYD, 19.3% for Geely, and 36.3% for SAIC. Other cooperating companies will see a duty of 21.3%, while it will be 36.3% for non-cooperating companies. Tesla has been granted an individual duty rate of 9%.

These new findings, combined with additional aspects of duty collection, will be open to comments by interested parties. After this, the commission will present the final determination to member states and put it to vote. The definitive findings will be published in the Official Journal of the EU by 30 October 2024.
