Dual heavy transports for secure power supply
Felbermayr recently handled one of the most spectacular dual heavylift transport tasks of the year in Austria, when it transported four transformers for Austrian Power Grid’s new Nauders substation.
The transports set off from a factory in Weiz, in the federal state of Styria, where Siemens Energy runs the world’s largest transformer plant in the ‘large power’ segment. The transformers, weighing 155 t each, were loaded one by one onto 20-axle railway wagons there before being sent on their way.
The transformers, each of which was around 7 m long, were specially secured by Felbermayr, to make sure they safely negotiated gradients of up to 10% on the subsequent road leg of the transport. (ben)
