DP World's climate promise
DP World has joined the First Movers Coalition (FMC) and committed to powering at least 5% of its short-sea shipping with zero-emission fuels by 2030. The FMC, led by the World Economic Forum and the US government, targets decarbonisation in hard-to-abate sectors like shipping, which contributes significantly to global emissions.
The coalition brings together major industry players to aggregate purchasing power and invest in zero-emission solutions, aiming to scale production and make clean technologies affordable for a net-zero transition.
DP World's initiative includes introducing two hybrid-electric and five methanol-enabled vessels, and P&O Ferries, part of DP World’s Marine Services, has already introduced a hybrid diesel-electric ferry. Unifeeder Group, another DP World entity, plans to deploy two methanol-capable container feeder vessels in Europe. DP World anticipates a yearly demand of 38,000 t of clean methanol by 2030 for these vessels. (pb)
