Diehl Aviation: change at the top

Rainer von Borstel (on the left), Diehl Aviation's CEO since 2010, is retiring at the end of next week, April 2021, and handing over the leadership to Josef Köcher, who joined the organisation as COO in June 2020. Köcher will remain COO, in addition to his new role as CEO, and will also succeed von Borstel as member of the Diehl executive board.

During the eleven years that von Borstel spent at the helm of Diehl Aviation, a system supplier of aircraft system and cabin solutions and a division of the Diehl Stiftung, he oversaw the growth of the company, integrated industrial units and managed critical stages of the organisation’s contribution to new commercial aircraft programmes, such as the Airbus A350 XWB and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Von Borstel also launched a product innovation and restructuring project in response to the global crisis.

Köcher spent 20 years in several management positions at Airbus and the Ariane Group, before joining Diehl Aviation. Most recently, he was head of production for aircraft and MRO Germany and head of site at Airbus Defence and Space in Manching. (amh)
