DHL to continue solar ship route in Berlin
DHL Group is extending its successful pilot project in collaboration with partners Behala and Solarwaterworld in Berlin until the summer of 2024. The project involves electrically powered solar ships for package transport, and due to its success, it will continue for at least another year.
The project has delivered over 50,000 carbon-neutral packages via solar ships since its inception in October 2022. DHL plans to expand the existing route along the Spree and Havel rivers, adding two more stops and introducing a second route from Köpenick to Osthafen.
A partnership with the Berlin senate aims to set up ten solar-powered DHL packing stations along the route. The expansion aligns with DHL's commitment to sustainable transport. (pb)
