DB Cargo to transport 200,000 t of steel

The German railfreight operator is operating new shuttle services for Riva from the steelworks in Brandenburg to Mannheim in southern Germany.

In total, DB Cargo will ship around 200,000 t of construction steel every year. From Mannheim, the steel products will be distributed to the steel manufacturer’s sites in Trier and Lampertheim, where they will be further processed.

DB Cargo has already transported steel for Riva by rail in the past. The recently concluded framework agreement will further increase the volume. Transport by rail saves around 8,000 truck journeys per year and over 4,000 t of CO2. The new shuttles will initially run three times a week. (ben)
