Cosco going the whole hog
Cosco Shipping is preparing another major investment. The Chinese carrier is to spend USD 4.9 billion on expanding its fleet in order to rise in the rankings and improve its position among the major global shipping companies.
The group will invest the funds from 2023 to the end of 2025 to acquire 32 container ships in total, expanding its carrying capacity by an estimated 580,000 teu. Currently, Cosco’s fleet comprises approximately 512 vessels with a capacity of 2.9 million teu.
Cosco Shipping Holdings commented the big plan in a press release: "We'll use the advantage of our scale to reduce costs and respond to the various needs of our clients." (sh)
