Chinese vaccines to the Caribbean

A new batch of vaccines developed by Chinese pharmaceutical companies Sinopharm and Sinovac was delivered from Beijing to the Dominican Republic by China Eastern Airlines on 18 March, according to the Shanghai-based airline.

After 17 hours 34 minutes' flight, the vaccines and syringes arrived at Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, having travelled 15,988 km. The carrier's freight unit, Eastern Air Logistics Co, was in charge of China's first intercontinental chartered cargo flight to deliver Covid-19 vaccines.

The arrival of the Chinese vaccines was welcomed by Raquel Peña de Antuña, Dominican Republic vice-president and head of the health cabinet, who said that the Chinese vaccines brought hope to the republic's people. (ah)
