CBP names new DFO for Laredo


Donald R. Kusser, formerly port director for the Los Angeles/Long Beach Seaport, has assumed his duties as director, field operations for the US Customs and Border Protection’s Laredo field office. Kusser succeeds DFO Randy J. Howe, who has retired after 34 years of federal service.

 

Kusser will oversee the operations of eight ports of entry extending from Brownsville, Texas to Del Rio, Texas. The Laredo field office processes the largest amount of land-based commercial truck traffic in the United States with more than USD 279 billion in merchandise entering in FY/2022 through the 23 crossings, six airports and one seaport which comprise the eight ports of entry.

 

In FY/2022, CBP officers assigned to the Laredo field office seized 24,808 kg of narcotics valued at USD 436 million while processing over 4.2 million commercial trucks, 19.2 million privately-owned vehicles, 8.4 million pedestrians and 51,239 buses. (cj)
