Cargo traffic over Switzerland up 39.3%
Air traffic in Switzerland grew sharply last year. Skyguide managed and monitored 1,147,007 flights under instrument flight rules (IFR) in 2022.
This represents a further significant increase in the total number of flights (+66.2%) compared to the previous year, but traffic volumes remain 12.1% below their 2019 level.
Cargo aircraft movements over Switzerland increased by 8.8% in 2022 compared to 2021, or by 39.3% compared to 2019. The national airports of Geneva (+70.2%) and Zurich (+68.0%) also recorded significantly higher traffic volumes.
Air traffic control punctuality remained at a very high level in 2022. 97.3% (prior year: 99.2%) of all flights controlled by Skyguide were handled on time. (cj)
